Air Bag Injuries
Nearly every motor vehicle in America is equipped with an "air bag," which is designed to, for lack of a better term, cushion the blow of an auto accident upon impact. The air bag comes out of the dashboard when this impact is made and ideally comes between the driver and the windshield, steering wheel, etc., and also protects the front passenger from a potentially fatal impact with the windshield.
Air bags, for the most part, function properly. But sometimes they do not. When an air bag does not work the right way, it will most often result in a much more serious injury for the driver and/or passenger than might otherwise be sustained. And because air bags are embedded within the dashboard (or side door panel), never to be seen until in fact there is an accident, if there is a defect the manufacturer is likely at fault.
Air bags, even when functioning properly, are not always safe. It is said that they detonate at 230 miles per hour with more than 1200 pounds of force. That can cause injury as well, especially if it opens at the wrong time. And air bags, which are designed for people of a certain size range, do not protect everyone in the same way. Women and children can be a casualty of this. The government is requiring that "advanced air bags" be devloped for all vehicles that would meet more comprehensive criteria, but the widespread implementation of that new requirement is years away.
If you or a loved one is involved in any injury whatsoever that concerns an air bag, you may be entitled to recover damages.
