AIRPLANE & AIRPORT ACCIDENT
It deserves mention that travel by air is considered to be the safest form of travel in the world. According to studies, planes have an average of .01 deaths for every 100 million miles traveled, which would make it four times safer than traveling by train. Even so, mishaps have occurred, with painful consequences.
It is well known that most accidents involving an airplane take place either during or right after takeoff, or during or right before landing. An airplane accident will almost always cause catastrophic damage. For roughly the last fifty years, it has been determined, as a result of a survey, that approximately 45% of accidents are caused by pilot error. Another 13% take place due to mechanical failure. And 4% come by way of other human error. The numbers could actually be higher, because of the high percentage of accidents that have undetermined causes.
Anything having to do with the flight crew (i.e., generally the pilot), airline personnel (maintenance) or the airplane itself (i.e., the manufacturer) is something that can conceivably have been avoided and for which another party is liable. And the consequences can be dire, to say the least. It can be safely said that any plane accident, even the most minor, can cause severe burns, loss of limbs, broken bones, internal injuries, and sicknesses cause by, among other things, toxic fumes for the passenger.
Plane accidents have in the past caused considerable grief for many families at once. Aside from the physical injuries and deaths that can occur, there is an amplified sense of pain and suffering among loved ones.
