ANESTHESIA ERRORS

Almost everyone who has had a surgical procedure is familiar with anesthesia. The anesthesiologist is present during the surgical procedure, and regulates the patient's state of consciousness. Though some may take it lightly, it is a delicate process. Anesthesia errors can have serious consequences. If you are the patient and you do not get enough anesthesia, you are going to be conscious (or at least semi-conscious) and possibly in a tremendous amount of pain. It is also possible that you can be over-anesthetized and go into a coma, or worse. There is nothing excusable about an anaesthesia error.

Administering the wrong dosage is common among this type of error. Dosage errors can be the fault of the anesthesiologist or the company that manufactured the anaesthetic that was used in the procedure. The equipment used may also be the root cause, in which case it could be the fault of a manufacturer, or the hospital (in the case where it did properly maintain a machine).

There are obvious effects that can result from getting the wrong anaesthesia. When there is "awareness during general anaesthesia," in other words, when you are fully or partially awake during an operation, psychological disorders can occur, including post-traumatic stress disorder, a by-product of the pain experienced during the process.

Pain and suffering, lost wages and wrongful death are also cause for compensation. If you or a loved one is the victim of an injury, physical or psychological, that is caused by an anaesthesia error, you have rights. We can help you assert them and explore your options. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are in need of guidance along these lines.
