DOG BITE INJURY

All of us love our pets. And the last thing we want to think of is that a canine can be the source of tremendous harm, grief and suffering. Yet that is sometimes the case. When a dog bite injury takes place, it can hurt. And depending on what kind of a dog it is, it can hurt an awful lot. Dog bite injuries are governed by law. Some of it is very simple - certainly if a dog owner ordered his dog to attack a person, he is going to be liable.

If that same owner had knowledge that the dog attacked people in the past, or was otherwise dangerous, but did not take the proper care around strangers, he could be liable. When taking the dog into public places, if the owner does not take steps to restrain a dog, and that leads to a dog bite injury, there is liability there as well.

In some states (known as "one-bite states"), if a dog has previously bitten someone, the owner is responsible, without too much doubt. If not, then liability might depend on whether there was negligence, reckless behavior with the dog, or some public safety law violated. In some cases, landlords (who are aware of how dangerous a dog might be) or a custodian (someone other than the owner) could find themselves as responsible parties.

Dog bites can obviously cause external injuries, but can also be the cause of disease, especially if a dog does not have the proper inoculations. Whatever the cause or effect, if you or a loved one is the victim of a dog bite and has suffered injury, it is time to seek professional legal help. You could be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, psychological counseling, pain and suffering, potential disabilities, sickness, medications, damage to personal property and lost wages/income.
