LEAD POISONING

Lead poisoning may be an uncommon experience, but when it does happen there can be a tremendous amount of liability on the part of whatever individual or entity is responsible. Lead poisoning causes damage - often irreparable - to the people who fall victim to it.

Those people could include apartment tenants. Landlords can be liable for paint-related hazards in buildings they own, since those buildings may have been painted with lead-based paint, which was used prior to 1978. Lead poisoning can also be the result of environmental pollution in the air, ground or water.

Children can actually be affected by lead poisoning to a greater degree. If they are playing in the schoolyard or the playground, for example, they are more likely to come into contact with components of the environment such as dirt and dust that might indeed contain lead. Also, in the past there have been instances of toys and toy-related items that have been recalled because of a dangerous level of lead, the product of ink or dye that might be included in them. This is a particular concern in an unsafe atmosphere; biologically, children absorb 50% of the lead they consume, as compared to just 10% on the part of adults. Brain damage, organ damage and cognitive malfunction can be a few of the results of lead poisoning in a child.

In addition, whether it is a child or an adult, lead poisoning can lead to depression, fatigue, severe abdominal pain, kidney failure and disease, nausea and vomiting, high blood pressure, anemia, diarrhea, and much, much more.
