MACHINERY & ASSEMBLY LINES

Many workplaces include assembly lines and/or large machinery, with a lot of people working within those environs. Effective communication can be at a minimum if the "shop" is loud and large. Such an atmosphere as this always has the potential to be dangerous. Often it is not enough for the employee in that situation to take as much care as possible; the machinery itself may invariably cause damage, or the working conditions may not be inherently safe.

This atmosphere of danger can be caused by many things. It may be the manufacturers themselves who have built the machines without enough regard for safety features or emissions concerns. Maybe they leak; maybe they break. Perhaps they do not shut down when they are supposed to. Maybe they do not come with proper instructions, or they malfunction without rhyme or reason. Sometimes they are poorly built because the manufacturer was too overly consumed with cost concerns. Or maybe they were well-built, but too old and antiquated to function safely and effectively any more.

The responsibility may be in the shop owner's hands too. The machines need to be maintained, and if that is done poorly the chances of a malfunction can greatly increase. The machines may not be replaced when they should be. The workplace itself might be badly maintained. The ventilation system itself may increase the incidence of toxins affecting the employee, when such a thing could have been prevented.

When workplace accidents involving machinery happen, the consequences are often dire. It is very easy to lose a limb or an appendage, go blind, suffer harmful mutilation or burns, sustain internal contamination, or even worse. The liability for this may completely rest in the hands of a negligent manufacturer or employer.

If something like this should happen to you or a family member, please remember that your rights in this situation may extend much farther than you think. Certainly it may go way beyond workmen's compensation. Please do not hesitate to contact out offices to find what you may be entitled to if machinery and its effects are the cause of injury.
