Any incident of sexual abuse is harmful, as it has the potential to have long-term effects on the victim. Many adults who were abused or molested during childhood often sustain psychological damage that is never repaired. Sexual abuse often happens as an exercise of power, in which case one person has almost certainly violated the rights of another and is liable to a degree for the damage that is inflicted, immediately and over time.
