TRUCK ACCIDENT
The aspect of truck accidents that concerns the vast majority of people involves an innocent person being a victim of someone else who is driving a truck. Because the vehicles involved in truck accidents are so much bigger than those involving a car, the injuries are likely to be much more serious.
To begin with, truck driving can be a very difficult profession. Since nearly all of it is directly related to commerce, drivers are on a tight schedule, where they must transport something between Point A and Point B within a specific amount of time. Often, these time limits become unreasonable. As a result, it is not unusual at all for a truck driver to be operating his/her vehicle for 18-20 straight hours on a highway. It is well known that they often have to work using the assistance of drugs and other stimulants just to stay awake. This sometimes creates an atmosphere that is something less than healthy.
Truck driving is a job that can produce enough drama that a documentary show called "Ice Road Truckers," which highlights to hazards and dangers involved in driving a truck under adverse conditions, currently airs on The History Channel.
As a result of their tight schedules and the pressures that accompany their work, truck drivers can become agitated, overly aggressive on the road, driving well above the speed limit, tailgating, ignorant of proper safety provisions that pertain to the vehicle itself, among other things. Because a vehicle of larger mass traveling at high speeds is exponentially more dangerous than a small car moving along at the speed limit, the threat of catastrophe is multiplied. Add to this the fact that there are no side or rear bumpers on these large trucks, and you can be in real danger driving a car in this atmosphere.
And although no one would argue that professional truck drivers are very talented at what they do, that level of talented is diminished when their own physical capacity is diminished. If you are on the highway, at any time of the day or night, you can find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
